Betstar is a relatively new bookmaker on the scene, having been introduced in 2007. Founded by bookmaking giants Michael and Alan Eskander, Betstar had the right backing from the word go.

Since that time, Betstar has been featured on the Fast 100 list in the Business Review Weekly, which is a high honour for an online bookmaking website.

Straight off the bat, we’re extremely impressed with the Betstar website. The most noticeable positive of the website is the speed.

Punters are taken to the home page within milliseconds, which is much faster than many other Australian bookmakers. Speed is very important to punters and missing out on a bet due to a slow website is an immediate turn off.

It’s a cleverly designed website, with blue and grey being the primary colour scheme. The colour draws you immediately to the main sections of the website, including the title banner and the latest promotions.

This is a great concept from the design team at Betstar. Punters’ attention is focused on the right-hand side, which features updated promotions and website features.

Navigation is easy throughout the site and we would give it an A+ for website design.

The horse racing section at Betstar is comprehensive for Australian and New Zealand racing. All the latest racing fields are well presented in an easy to understand format.

They also feature fixed odds markets for international racing hours in advance, which is much better than many other bookmakers in Australia. Having fixed odds on and not relying on the tote is a big bonus for all punters.

International racing covered includes the likes of Europe, USA, South Africa and Asia. The only negative is that Betstar doesn’t currently offer any futures markets for international racing outside of Australasia.

That being said, fixed odds markets will be available for those races in the hours leading up to the race.

Once punters have clicked into a race, there’s a wealth of information on offer. Odds fluctuations, fixed and tote odds, recent form and horse information is all offered.

For extended form, punters simply click on the runner they want and a comprehensive form guide is available.

You can tell this website was made by two horse racing enthusiasts. The sports betting section is by no means poor, but at face value it’s empty.

Punters aren’t greeted with much in terms of appeal, but all the sport betting options are there, including all the upcoming big sporting events.

The “quick links” section is filled with upcoming events, such as the next UFC PPV and the USA sports playoffs. All of the sports are listed below on the left-hand side, but it’s simplistic at best.

That might appeal to some punters – not having heaps of advertising pasted all over the page. However, it just seems a bit uncared for.

The odds on offer from Betstar are good. They offer $1.92 lines and that’s better than most bookies, which often offer $1.90 lines.

There is a 24/7 customer betting service, which is available to both local and international bettors. There’s also a customer support phone number available on the website.

There’s no live chat option, which is a negative. Many bookmakers have implemented this, due to punters wanting answers to their questions quickly.

We’re guessing, due to having only 40 staff registered, that Betstar won’t be having a live chat option any time soon.

Betting with Betstar is available on mobile devices. Betstar has a betting app for iPhone and Android users, which is essentially a streamlined version of the website.
