Because the spots to get the vaccine from the Oklahoma City-County Health Department were filled within minutes, people have to wait even longer to get the vaccine.
“Less than two minutes. Two minutes, it was full. Every slot,” Tami Lee said.
It’s a complaint KOCO 5 has heard all day.
“And I type over 150 words a minute. This is what I do for a living. So I wasn’t jacking around,” Lee said.
Residents in Oklahoma County were frustrated by how quick the time slots for vaccine appointments filled up, even for those who started the process before 9 a.m.
“Continually started reloaded from 8:55 so that as soon as that opened up for available appointments, I’d be able to, hopefully, jump right into a slot,” Miranda Gardner said.
Gardner said she was trying to get her husband’s grandparents signed up.
“Went to save it, and this appointment has been taken. Saved, please try another. When I exited out, immediately I could see almost all appointments were taken. This was 9:01,” Gardner said. “To know that we’re this close to something that could put us back on the track to normalcy and resuming those family relationships and holidays and birthdays and all those things we want to do – and to think I’m doing everything right and planning and having all my information – and then boom, it’s rejected. It’s awful, and I know the opportunity will be there later, but it’s extremely frustrating.”

Oklahoma City-County Health Department officials said they launched their sign-up page as a plan B while they wait for the state health department’s app. They also said they were surprised by how fast the slots filled up – and more than 1,000 people were signed up to get the vaccine on Thursday.
“We had just had a lot of people excited to get the vaccine, so it went really quickly,” said Molly Fleming, with the Oklahoma City-County Health Department. “We know that’s only a small portion of the people who are 65 and older, but at least it’s a step. We can only vaccinate based on vaccination availability. We obviously can’t vaccinate people if we don’t have the vaccine. So when we get more vaccine, then we’ll have more clinics and open it up to more people, but that number and that planning happens week per week.”
